Who is it applicable to

Residence permits are issued to NON EU citizens who wish to work in Latvia. These include those who wish to start a company of their own in Latvia or those may decide to cooperate with an existing business or even those who may buy out a running business. In all these cases, the law applicable is that of Employment of Foreigners.  

 

• Employees with a firm job offer that has been verified by the labor ministry

• To start your own company and work in it

• To buy a running business and work in it

• Investing in a Latvian company and agree to hold a position within the company.

• Board Member appointed by a Latvian company

• High Skill category employees who qualify for an EU Blue card

Main requirements 

​

• Establish or buy a ready made company or co-invest in a successful Latvian company.

• Invest minimum Euro 2800 as capital in your company if you are starting your own business

• Have a business plan. Not needed when you agree to invest in a successfully operating Latvian company

• Prepare an employment contract to work for your company and employ yourself. Or between you and the company you are investing into.

• Your position must be advertised with the Labor Department for a minimum of 10 days before you become eligible to apply for a work and residence permit.

• Have a University degree to match the type of work to be performed  OR

• Proof of minimum three years of employment experience ( even if you are a business owner in your own country, you must prove your expertise )

• Pay yourself a minimum salary of Euro 1537 gross and pay minimum monthly tax of around Euro 850 based on this salary. Note this is not tax advice.  To understand your taxes we can offer you a meeting with our Accountant / Tax Advisor.

• IMPORTANT : For family's residence permit. In addition to the investment, salary and taxes etc. if you wish to bring in your family to Latvia, you will need to demonstrate that you have additional savings of Euro 8400 ( spouse ) Euro 2500 ( each minor child )
